Health and Fitness By Claire Henderson / January 8, 2015 Iremember the very first time I attempted a detox; it was back in 2008, shortly after I turned 30. I was always underweight, hovering between 90 and 100 pounds most of my life, and if I had any issues, it was to gain, not lose weight. The concept of cleansing and detoxing was alien to me, something that other people did, as I found detoxing a bit extreme. I then met someone who was very health conscious. He was young, in his mid 20s, and although suffering from psychological issues, was very active and fit. He introduced me to a colon cleansing kit that, of course, I had never heard of before. It was called Blessed Herbs colon cleansing kit; he didn’t say much about it except to search for it online and read the testimonials on its official website. That piqued my curiosity enough to read and check out its site, and I eventually bought the kit. Blessed Herbs is a company that originated in the US; they have an online distributor in the UK named Blue Herbs, which is where I bought the kit from. I braced myself for the unknown; the thoughts that were coming to me were: “What can possibly go wrong?”; “It’s about time!” and “Nothing to lose (except toxins)!” So I went ahead; it was comforting to know that the kit came with a calendar and a booklet that explains everything. I was very impressed; the literature made it so user-friendly and practically foolproof. Firstly, they show you three options on how to use it: the ‘good,’ ‘better,’ and ‘best’ options. I went ahead and chose the best option; it meant doing a liquids diet for 5 days straight, and including prep time, the whole cleanse would take a total of 9 days. The liquids involved are mostly organic apple juice and water; additionally, a vegetable soup recipe is available for times when you are having cravings for something hot. Again, the booklet guide that came with the kit is extremely detailed. It shows other types of juices that can be substituted if apple juice is not available where you are, the herbs involved, and what to avoid before and during the cleanse. The calendar also includes affirmations, very helpful during times when you feel emotional. The makers obviously understood that the cleanse involves not only a physical but also an emotional release. The first thing I realized while doing this cleanse is how addicted I am to hot beverages, especially upon waking up. It was challenging in the beginning to not have coffee or tea or anything hot in the morning. I persisted. I was so determined; I remember cooking roasted chicken for my partner, smelling the wonderful aroma, and reminding myself, “It’s going to be worth it; just focus.” I was instantly rewarded when on the third day, as I was brushing my teeth, I noticed my face was clearing up! I couldn’t believe it; the change in my skin texture was so drastic. It was like magic. This little miracle motivated me to go on and finish the program. When I did finish, I felt like I accomplished something that was so big that I felt like I was walking on air. To say that it was successful is an understatement; this single detoxing changed my relationship with food forever. I also noticed how much energy I had in the morning, thinking, “Where is this coming from?” Another thing worth noting about this colon cleansig kit is that it will bust many myths about cleansing. You will never ‘need to rush to a toilet’; it just doesn’t happen that way. ‘You will feel hungry and lethargic all the time’ is far from the truth; the herbs and bentonite clay included in the mix are designed to keep you feeling full and energetic. I did lose 3 kilos after the cleanse, although losing weight was not my goal. I am so glad to have done this cleanse and continue to tell my friends about it. My dad did it a few years ago and said, “It definitely will add another 5 years in my life.” If you want to know how to cleanse and detox your body and don’t know how to start, give this kit a try; you won’t regret it. After having done it, I no longer eat indiscriminately, knowing that what I eat has a direct effect on my mood and my body.
