Healthy Eating Habits: Breakfast Tips

Healthy Eating Habits: Breakfast Tips

For years, the saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day has been passed down from generation to generation despite the fact that years ago, this was not a well-proven fact. However, modern medicine and recent research show that this “myth” may be true after all. According to the research that was conducted by Jianghong Liu and other professionals at the School of Nursing in University of Pennsylvania, children who eat breakfast every day may have a higher IQ than those who do not. This research highlighted the results of a survey that was conducted in China in which more than 1,000 children were asked to answer IQ tests and to fill out a questionnaire that aims to determine their breakfast routines. In this survey, it was revealed that the results of the IQ tests of children who have a regular breakfast meal are higher than the results of children who do not eat breakfast regularly. This outcome establishes the fact that breakfast can indeed help people function better mentally and that it is indeed the most important meal of the day. This is why it is important for people to know more about the proper healthy eating habits that they should follow every morning regardless of their fitness routine or their overall weight goal. Here are some examples.

Drink the right types of fluid before breakfast

Healthy eating habits start with the first sip. Drinking a glass of water upon waking up or before eating breakfast helps quicken the body’s metabolism. Opting for tea instead of coffee is also a great morning-starter before eating breakfast since it does not cause stomach upsets and is packed with antioxidants that help the body absorb the nutrient content of breakfast meals more efficiently. Drinking tea every morning can also help lower the body’s cholesterol and fat levels, which is what most people who want to lose weight are looking for in their meals. healthy eating habits

Choose the right cereal

For those who do not have the time to cook a proper breakfast meal every single day because of their work or their hectic schedule, eating cereal is highly recommended. However, this does not mean that any type or brand of cereal will do. Choosing the right cereal is one of the basics that everybody should be aware of. The right cereal is a low-sodium, low-fat, high-fiber, and highly nutritious one that does not contain high amounts of preservatives and sweeteners. This is why looking at the nutritional content of each brand and comparing them to one another should be a habit for all consumers and should be regarded as one of the most important eating habits.

Make breakfast a habit

To reap the benefits of healthy eating habits, it should be done regularly, preferably every single day. Those who are not used to eating breakfast or those who get stomachaches every time they eat breakfast should start with small portions of food every single morning. These small food portions can be anything healthy from one piece of hard boiled egg to a slice of cheese or half a bowl of cereal. Once eating breakfast becomes a routine that comes organically, people can experiment with the larger portions of food that are recommended by professionals.
